Waukee Community School District celebrated the opening of the Waukee Innovation and Learning Center (WILC) with more than 800 business partners, community members, parents, students, staff and alumni on April 10. The event featured remarks from superintendent Cindi McDonald and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, tours, hors d’oeuvres and innovative activities.
The WILC building design is the first of its kind for Iowa, combining several components to create a modern workplace: a cafe, collaborative spaces, meeting rooms, accelerators, decompression zones, and industry specific studios.
“It is more than just a building. It inspires new ideas and encourages natural connections between business partners, students and educators,” McDonald said.
The building will provide a place for the more than 400 students who will be enrolled in Waukee APEX programming next year.
